Reflection on the Literacy Narrative
I wrote a Literacy Narrative that explains and responds to the image of Charcot, A Clinical Lesson at the Salpetriere. I wrote the literacy narrative because I wanted to explore my thoughts about the image. I wanted to describe what I felt about the image and how does it relate to my personal experiences. Also, it would help me become a better writer in the future.
My audience for the literacy narrative was my fellow students and my professor. Since they already know about the image, I want them to relate my ideas to their own and think which one is stronger. I wrote four paragraphs, the introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. To grab my audience’s attention, I have a strong hook in my essay which will force them to read on. I also have a thesis that helps my reader to know more about the topic in my perspective or what I thought about the image. I use logical reasoning to support my arguments and relate it to Freud’s lectures. First, I was struggling in writing so my first draft was not strong enough, in the peer review I learn where I need to focus more. I also use the book, The Norton Field Guide to Writing which helped me get an idea of how to start. I went to the writing center as well in which I learned more about the image and its details, which helped me to write more about the image.
After writing the essay I went to tutoring, the tutor read my essay and mark the grammar mistakes. In my essay, I discussed the way the woman was being held by a man even though the woman is not feeling well. I argue that the woman has not been treated well, the professor who was giving the lecture should be concerned about the health of the woman. He should not ignore her condition. I also wrote about the professor’s behavior to the patient that he also thinks like other doctor thinks that women are lying about their health, the doctors said that they are completely fine they don’t have any kind of illness. I used Freud’s lecture and relate it to the image and also discussed Breuer found a method to treat his patients. He would hypnotize his patients and questions them about their past, which would help them to become better. My argument was about the professor, who should teach Breuer’s methods to his students because he not giving an effective lecture by using the woman’s body as an object. What would the professor’s student learn from it, they probably would do the same thing to the woman. The professor should have taught them the respect but he is teaching them how to disrespect a woman, that just uses a woman’s body without her consent.
