Reflection on the Critical Research Analysis Paper

The struggle of me writing the Critical Research Analysis paper on how to start the essay. I chose the third prompt, which is about the critique of society and the story I chose was The Bluest Eye. Throughout the process of writing, I was having difficulty on how to begin the paper. I wanted to have an outline before I started the paper in order to be organized on what I wanted to write about. The purpose of writing this paper is to improve my skill in terms of the structure, grammar and analysis. Through this essay, I also wanted to explain my perspective on what the author, Toni Morrison, is critiquing about in her novel, The Bluest Eye. I tried my best to achieve my purpose by following the direction of using two outside sources.

The Critical Research Analysis Paper is worth 25 percent of grade, so I put all my effort to make my essay more interesting and engaging to the reader. Since my two main audiences are Professor von Uhl and Professor Alyssa, I followed the instructions, I wrote the way she wants us to write. I did not put too much summary, but more analysis of the text. The argument that I made was that, Cholly was not raised by his parents that affect his mental health and his parenthood. According to Freud, Chollly did not complete his psycho sexual stages of development. The most important part of the essay was to have a strong thesis statement, but I was not able to put my words that are in my mind on to the paper. Then I had a thesis statement focusing on the beauty standard, but when I finish writing my essay I changed my whole thesis statement and now it is focusing on the lack of love within the African American community. Cholly and Pecola were the two characters that stood out to me because there was so much to write about them, their background, their lifestyle and how it was affected. The lack of love in Cholly’s life affected him mentally, his mother abandoned him and when he went to his father, his father verbally abused him. Cholly could not play a role of a perfect father in his children’s lives, he did not know how to love them. In fact, he sexually abused his own daughter.

Throughout our class we had a lot of peer reviews, which helped me to know my mistakes and where I need to focus more. I went of the CPR party with Professor Alyssa, where me and other students shared our thesis statement. They helped me in putting Freud into my thesis statement. The professors gave us an outline to start, which did not help me, I was still struggling to begin my essay because I start overthinking it, whenever I start writing, all of the argument comes up to my mind at the same time and I get confused about what to write.
